Exactly how long have you been putting this off?
It's obvious that farmergal has put off grooming her horses, more than just a few times.
I don't care how f'ing cold it is, your horses deserve to be properly cared for.
If you can't even accomplish the simplest of tasks (grooming), than you are most likely unfit for horse ownership. I don't think you're doing her any favors by keeping the hair on. If the hair starting to shed on it's own, then its alright to groom some of the loose hair off the horse. (Duh)
A well maintained horse doesn't look like this, even in shedding season.
This mare has A LOT of hair. If she had been groomed (even every now and then) she wouldn't have that much hair.
Oh, and take a look at the fabulous hoof care. The unkempt toes really suit this mare. (note sarcasm).
Well, I'm just happy that the lady is going to clean up the negligence, and hopefully stay on top of grooming and hoof care. (Although, I didn't see any mention to the hoof care, correct me if something WAS indeed stated...)
Take a look at the other two (not as bad, but still pretty gross).

What the heck is worng with this person she seems suprised that the horses are skinny under the rats nest of hair like HELLO. People like this need to be treated the same as the animals in their care mabey then things would change.

Wow! they look like they've been attacked by a hair spitting monster LOL. When's the last time you brushed them? Looks like their hooves need to be trimmed too, poor critters.
The moderators deleted it and I tried to post again and it said, they will not post my messages til it's been approved by the moderators. DANG I really have horsedopia. If you don't blow sunshine up people's ass it's not allowed.
Do you see on the 2nd page she admits they are a little underweight under all that hair. Sheesh! How long has it been since she actually touched them. but dang, she takes great care of her animals.

Funny that she is ashamed to find they are skinny, but not ashamed to let them get into such shitty condition and then post it on the internet. But FarmerGal, you obviously just wanted a self esteem boost, which is why its great that you are a HT member. Nowhere else is such dumbshittery praised.
In conclusion, I will laugh until I cry when I read about how your ponies try to stomp you to death. You will ask the other HTers what to do, and they will tell you to sell (or breed!) the little bitch. Anyone from here or Fugly who posts saying that you had it coming will be filtered out. Just remember that ponies have excellent memories.
Wow.... I've even neglected grooming for a few weeks. But it never came out like this. What is it with ponies n' their fur. This isn't the first pony I've seen like this. But it does make you wonder when the last time he was even touched.

How can you check your horse's health when you can't see them?!?!! I'm surprised she didn't find some type of sores or skin infection under all that mess! She should be ashamed for finding them underweight - if she had touched them, she would have known they are under weight.

She put off grooming because it was too cold? Good grief! I've groomed horses in temperatures well below freezing. What's wrong with people!?

I got my horse the year i broke my ankle in 6 places, when he was brought home he was covered in burrs, i hate burrs. It was awful, i am very anal about burrs in my horses. I went outside in December with a cast on and picked the burrs out everyday...took 3 weeks, but i got them out!
Grooming, as I am sure the people on this blog are well aware, is not just for making your horse look pretty. As this girl has (belatedly) discovered, grooming your horse daily is the BEST way to keep an eye on his overall condition.
Most people wouldn't catch that puncture wound on the inside of a hind leg or (as that poster found out) see body condition well beneath two inches of shaggy pony fur. Getting your hands on your horse daily is a great way to catch these things. Grooming is good for your horse and good for you. Sheesh.
Do you people all blanket your horses and keep them tucked in heated stalls all winter?
When it's cold out, they get a thicker coat, especially ponies, who need it. Like when it's freezing and they're out in nature. I think she meant she didn't want to curry off their coat in the winter to protect THEM from the elements. I've been told by trainers and vets not to go too crazy in the winter, either. My horses have 4 sided shelters they can choose to use if the weather gets too harsh.
Granted this looks longer and messier than I've ever seen and mine are more on the fat side with trimmed hooves, but still. Older horses and ponies generally get thicker coats in winter and can look like hell as the weather warms up.
Remember how horses actually live in the wild without people grooming them at all, or blanketing them, or locking them in stalls? Somehow they've managed over milennia.
I think you people are overly harsh and crazed about pointing out how great you are treating your horses. If you actually cared about those ponies, you might befriend her and offer some advice to her, but you seem to be really all about proving how spectacular you are. Nice club. Useful knowledge to bash others with.
